Baptism this week!
Tuesday we will be having the baptism of Carlos who is about 50 and has been living in NM for 13 years away from his family and sending all the money he makes back to them. He has been taught for 6 months and has been ready to be baptized for 3, but FINALLY the time is here. Every possible road block has come up to prevent him from getting baptized. (for example yesterday we gave a tour of the church and opened up the baptismal font and saw that it had been torn apart for renovations....would have been good to tell the missionaries...so we had to call and reschedule the baptism Again....) But all the trials have only made him stronger. His daughter who he has not seen in 13 years is even coming up for his baptism! AHH! Tuesday is going to be such a great day :)
We love the branch more and more here each week. The branch is just going out of their way to help us, and we daily see how Hermana missionaries is just what the area needed at this moment. In the TX mission our lessons only count if we have a member with us, which can be hard with such a small congregation, but many of the members come out with us 1-2 times a week and we even have one Hermana who will spend the whole day with us!
I just Love my companions more each week! Hermana Gonzales has only been a member for a little over a year and paved the way for the rest of her family to start taking the lessons. It is funny because often in companion studies in the morning me or Hermana Laparra will share something that she had never heard before.....so we are teaching ALL the time...hahaha
This morning we were invited to help out at the food bank for a while, it was so much fun! I love volunteer work! Good thing I'm a missionary eh!?
Even while we were just sitting here emailing, a guy walked up to us to give us his information to meet with the elders, said he was just trying to make God a part of his life again (to bad he speaks English and we will need to give the information to the elders....) The work in Portales is really just booming! We have about 8 new investigators a week, which I thought was normal until I started to read emails from other missionaries. I feel SO blessed to be here, and see Gods hand just lead us to all the humble people here who are trying to find happiness in their life.
YAY David is in Portugal now! Makes me so happy to know he is doing the same stuff as me!
Love you all tons!!
