Subject: Borger Spanish

The Standard of Truth has been erected, NO unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Persecutions may RAGE, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, but the truth of God SHALL GO FORTH BOLDY, nobly, and independent, Till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and penetrated every ear. The the purposes of God shall be accomplished and the great Jehovah shall say, They work is DONE.
Nothing will stop this work. No imperfections of man or women or government or country or anything can stop the work of God. The only question is will you help or stand aside?
Before I forget, some TX mail forwarding law changed and all mail must be sent directly to me now. We are at 1300 Patton Circle Borger, TX 79007. There are 5 weeks left in the transfer (time before I could possibly move to a new area) so in 4 weeks hang onto mail for a bit, and then I will send you the new address if I have one!
Now on to the miracle of Borger! The population of Borger is around 13000 and just a bit smaller than the areas I have been before. The town has a super unique feel! Everyone works for the oil or gas plants that surround the town, but a few years ago a huge plant closed and 1/2 the town moved, so there are TONS of abandoned buildings and closed down businesses. aka Borger....the ghost town! There are also, as I have been told, 52 churches here. We think about 30 are baptist churches. We love all the soul people have here when they talk about God!
Sister Langston is amazing! She is from Hurricane, UT. She is SO happy to be healthy again and to be back on her mission, so we are working hard and learning TONS of Spanish. We teach only Spanish here, and the Elders teach English.
This week we had some really neat experiences......
1. We had the opportunity to do some service at a nondenominational church. We helped prepare bags of food for the homeless and poor. We weren't allowed to leave the back room or have any "contact" with those of their congregation, but we were happy to help anyways! At the end, they had a prayer circle. We all held hands and they talked for about 10 min "giving praises" Full of lots of Amens and Hallelujahs. The poor elder who had to hold my hand for 15 min seemed SO uncomfortable....haha
2. We met a neat lady named Davette who had written an angry note to God telling Him to prove he loved her and wanted to help and the next day we showed up at her door. That meeting was filled with lots of tears and renewed hope. The elders are now teaching her and helping her recover from all her addictions.
3. We are teaching a man named Jeff who has been taught by elders for years! He has a fairly dirty mouth that the elders warned us about, but we had a Bold talk with him about being worthy for the spirit to dwell within us. The fact that we are sisters is really motivating him to change that and we can feel the spirit more and more when we meet with him!
4. President asked us to think of a Pump up phrase to use before we leave the house each day. Sister Langston and I realized how the south is rubbing off on us when our pump up phrase had several amens and hallelujahs :) I also say Sir. and ma'am ALOT.
5. 2 Jehovah witnesses knocked on our door this week and when they saw who we were said, sorry we thought this house spoke Spanish, and started to leave. We quickly switched to Spanish and shared a short message with them :)
Longer email today! But I know you love it ;)
